The Medical Lake girls soccer squad (0-3, 0-5) continue to struggle and work on being competitive as the season moves ahead.
The team lost 13-0 to the undefeated Freeman Scotties (3-0, 5-0) at home on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The teams focus, according to head coach Zane Higgins, was to focus on what they could do to improve, he said.
The Cardinals faced then faced the Grizzlies (1-2, 1-5) in Newport the following Thursday in a 4-0 loss.
“It was a pretty even game, back and forth,” Higgins said. “They had a couple of girls that could finish.”
Senior Annastasia Hurt-Moran, the teams only club player, was pulled after 10 minutes due to a knee injury, and her status remained questionable as of Monday — Higgins had yet to hear from her after a doctor visit.
Junior Lucy Chicoine replaced Hurt-Moran in front of the net for the remainder of the game, allowing only two goals in the 4-0 loss.
“We’re definitely getting more experience,” Higgins said.
As of press time the Cardinals were scheduled to host Riverside (0-4, 0-4) on Tuesday, Sept. 24, then travel to Colville to take on the Indians (1-2, 1-3) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
“Without generating some goals we’ll have some issues,” Higgins said of Riverside. “It should be a competitive game.”
