Goodbye to the Free Press, it's been fun

Write to the Point

Dear readers,

I have worked for the Cheney Free Press for more than a year, and it has been a pleasure to do so. But now, it’s time to move on.

While at the Free Press, I’ve travelled to firefighter trainings and photographed military parachute jumpers, covered city meetings and community gatherings and met some seriously wonderful people.

I want to thank the subscribers of the Cheney Free Press for supporting your local newspaper, for being involved in your communities and for allowing us to share with you important news of the day. I’m grateful to the hundreds of people I have spoken with over the last year who have trusted me enough to share their stories, give me tips and welcome me into their organizations.

I’m also appreciative of my colleagues, who have continuously offered support, constructive critique, and their invaluable intuition and news-sense. Learning from and working with other reporters is one of the greatest parts of journalism — there’s truly nothing quite like the energy, drive and focus found in a quality newsroom and the Cheney Free Press is certainly that.

So many of you have trusted me with your time, stories and subscription money. I hope that in return, I was able to share insight, awareness and truth. I hope that together we made some small difference.

It has been an honor working with and writing about the West Plains community, and I hope to continue to do so in my new role working with the Cheney School District.

Thanks for the memories — I’ll be reading.

Shannen Talbot
