Polo Classic is a success despite poor weather

A bit of rain didn’t deter attendees of the 15th annual Polo Classic in Airway Heights over the weekend — despite showers, more than 1,200 people attended the event benefitting Ronald McDonald charity houses in the Inland Northwest.

Ironically, the polo match was cancelled due to weather, but other events such as a silent auction and the annual “Parade of Hats” continued as planned.

Silent auction items included a day with the Spokane Swat team and a variety of golf excursions, with the proceeds going to benefit children with disabilities or those battling serious illnesses.

Donations as large as $25,000 were reportedly made to sponsor the Ronald McDonald House, which offers temporary lodging, comfort and support for families with critically ill or injured children accessing medical services in Spokane.

The Polo Classic relies on the work of more than 500 volunteers to bring in nearly $500,000 a year for the organization.
