Eastern Washington to help Marshall residents without water

The town of Marshall has been without potable water since Aug. 7, and could be without water for up to a month.

According to news sources, a consulting engineer looking at the condition of the town’s pump determined a mechanical failure led to the shutdown of the only water source for its 70-plus residents. The malfunction could require an extensive repair that might leave residents without water up to 45 days.

Bottled water is being distributed door to door in the town located on the Cheney-Spokane Road and additional supplies are stocked near the town’s post office.

Various organizations are stepping forward to help out, which includes Eastern Washington University.

EWU is offering Marshall residents the use of the following facilities for free to shower during the water situation:

– The University Recreation Center (URC) at 1012 Cedar St. Hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

– The Sports & Recreation Center locker room facilities (Physical Education Activities Complex off Washington Street/next to tennis courts). Summer hours are 6 a.m.-7 p.m. through Sept. 25.

All Marshall residents have to do is show up and say they’re from Marshall.
