Eastern Washington University head women’s golf coach Brenda Howe announced the 2019-20 schedule. The Eagles compete in 10 matches overall, beginning with the Battle at Old Works on Sept. 16-17 and concluding with the Big Sky Conference Championships on April 20-22.
“This is a familiar schedule for us. There are a couple new events from last year, but both are on courses we’ve played in the past,” Howe, who is starting her 11th year at the helm, said. “Having a new venue for the conference championship is exciting and I know our veteran players are looking forward to the new site.”
Highlights for the upcoming season include conference match play against Big Sky foes Montana, Idaho State and Montana State in Missoula, Mont., early in the fall season as well as the annual Cowgirl Classic in Arizona in the spring.
After the Eagles look to defend their first-place finish at the Battle at Old Works from last year, they’ll play at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore., on Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 at the Langdon Farms Golf Course.
Following the Big Sky Match Play on Oct. 4-5, the team plays in Tacoma, Wash., at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club for the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational hosted by Seattle U.
These four matches conclude the fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule. The Eagles return in the spring to face off at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course for the Grand Canyon Invitational on Feb. 22-23 in Phoenix, Ariz.
In early March, the Eagles participate in the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev., hosted by South Dakota State. Soon after, the team travels to St. George, Utah to compete at the Sunbrook Golf course for the Pizza Hut Invitational.
The early weeks of April consist of the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz., hosted by Wyoming at the AK Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course. One week after the Cowgirl Classic Invitational, the Eagles travel back to Arizona to contend in the Bobcat Desert Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., hosted by Montana State.
Excitement rises for the Eagles as two of their All-Conference golfers in Madalyn Ardueser and Alexa Clark, who have both placed in the top ten in the Big Sky Conference Championship in their careers, will be returning and look to continue their success. Last season the Eagles tied for fourth at the Big Sky Conference Championship and this year with the help of Clark, Ardueser and the rest of the squad, the team looks to finish even higher.
