A number of local students have recently received degrees and awards from post-high school institutions. They are listed below along with information about their university.
Bruess makes Dean’s List
Cheney High School alumnus Brayden W. Bruess has been named to the Norwich University Dean’s List for the spring semester, 2019.
Full-time undergraduate students, who earned a semester grade point average of at least 3.40 and had no failures in the previous fall or spring semesters are awarded Dean’s List honors. These students cannot have any pending incomplete (I) grades. Dean’s List honors are noted on the official transcript each term earned.
Located in Northfield, Vermont, Norwich University is a diversified academic institution that educates traditional-age students and adults in a Corps of Cadets and as civilians. Norwich offers a broad selection of traditional and distance-learning programs culminating in Baccalaureate and Graduate Degrees. Norwich University was founded in 1819 by Captain Alden Partridge of the U.S. Army and is the oldest private military college in the United States of America. Norwich is one of our nation’s six senior military colleges and the birthplace of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
Ormsby graduates from RIT
Samantha Ormsby of Cheney graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in December 2018 with a master’s of science degree in applied statistics.
RIT conferred some 4,200 degrees this academic year at all its campuses-including in Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo and China. The university held its 134th annual commencement celebration in May.
Founded in 1829, RIT enrolls about 19,000 students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, making it among the largest private universities in the U.S.

The following Cheney residents have earned a degree from Western Governors University (WGU):
Baylie Bunke has earned her master of arts in teaching, elementary education (K-8)
Jean Miller has earned her master of education, learning and technology
M'Linda Holmgren has earned her master of science, curriculum and instruction
Heather Mclagan has earned her master of education, learning and technology
David Bowlin has earned his bachelor of science, information technology
Ethan Silvieus has earned his master of arts in teaching, elementary education (K-8)
Eric Rasmussen has earned his master of business administration
WGU has recognized 13,244 undergraduate and 8,930 graduate degree recipients, who have completed their degrees in the last six months. Their areas of study include business, K-12 education, information technology, and health professions, including nursing. The average time to graduation for those earning a bachelor's degree was two years, four months, while the average time to degree for graduate programs was one year, seven months.
