Various activities are scheduled during the week. The youth group (Holy Flame) meets Monday 6 p.m. for dinner and Bible study. The women meet for prayer time at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. Other small groups meet at various times and places during the week.

The women will hold their monthly brunch at 9 a.m., Saturday, July. “Your Words Matter” is the theme. We will look at what the Bible says about the words we say.

AWANA Club is dismissed for the summer, but we are gearing up for Vacation Bible School. The theme this year is “Mega Sports Camp,” and is being held in cooperation with Resonate Church and Cheney Church of the Nazarene. The VBS will be held July 22 – 24, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for first – fifth graders at Salnave Elementary School and Park. Register on-line at resonate.net/megasportscamp, or on-site the first morning. On-line registration is preferred.

Some of our youth group recently took a one-week mission trip to Ukiah, Oregon, to assist a church there with VBS, community outreach and various work projects.

Cheney Congregational Church

We are delighted to announce that Rev. Matthew Keith Goodale will deliver his candidacy sermon at our 10 a.m., Sunday, July 7, service. He is young, but thoroughly trained at Princeton Theological Seminary, one of the premier seminaries of the world. The result is that he is wise beyond his years and practical in his theology. His wife, Megan, spent her early years in Cheney.

Please visit us on Sunday to hear Goodale and join us for coffee hour after the congregation meets to vote on calling him to be our new pastor.

We expect to have new hymnals in the pew racks this week. “Hymns for a Pilgrim People” is the hymnal of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches. Published in 2007, they will replace the old red hymnals from the 1970s.

We are accepting applications for our church coordinator position, an eight-hour-per-week, part-time position. Applicants must have strong communication skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office programs. Interested applicants should mail their resumes to the church at 423 N. 6th St., Cheney, WA 99004, or e-mail it to cheneycongregational@gmail.com.

For your contemplation: “When you love people, you see all the good in them, all the Christ in them. God sees Christ, His Son, in us and loves us. And so we should see Christ in others, and nothing else, and love them. There can never be enough of it. There can never be enough thinking about it.” Dorothy Day.

United Methodist Church

We hope you will join us Sunday morning at the United Methodist Church. This Sunday, Pastor Pat Sleeth will preach and continue a sermon series on Simon Peter exploring the question, “Bedrock or Stumbling Block?” Worship is at 10 a.m. followed by a time of fellowship.

Save the date for the annual church parking lot sale, July 13. Bargains galore as you name your own price on most items.

You may call the church office for information on other worship and study opportunities.
