The Airway Heights Recreation Center will be hosting a county-wide meeting seeking public feedback on the six-year strategic plan for the county parks system.
At the meeting, officials from Spokane County’s Parks, Recreation and Golf Department are seeking community input on the types of parks and recreational facilities, amenities and location the county should pursue over the next six years to align local needs with state planning guidelines.
The event is being billed as an “Open House” with a casual drop-in format. The public will be invited to view informational display boards and talk to parks staff.
The input received will be incorporated into the 2020 Park Plan Update, which is anticipated to be finalized by the end of this year, according to the Airway Heights Parks and Recreation Department. The park plan guides maintenance, enhancement and expansion of the county park system and allows the county to pursue state and federal grants that fund park improvements and land purchases.
“The Park Plan is essential to enhancing our park system and Spokane County’s quality of life,” the county’s Parks, Recreation and Golf Department director Doug Chase said. “The current plan has enabled the county to secure millions of dollars of highly competitive grant funding over the last six years.”
The previous plan was updated in 2014.
A post on the Airway Heights Parks and Recreation Department website said the meeting will offer attendees “an opportunity to express the importance of our Rec Center and Sports Complex site to be included in this important strategic plan.”
The recreation center in Airway Heights was specifically built with a banquet hall and conference rooms so it could be utilized to host such meetings.
