The Cheney High School boys soccer season came to an end on May 11 when the Grandview Greyhounds eliminated the Blackhawks 4-1 in a district crossover match.
An easy win in the Great Northern League championship match against Clarkston at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field on May 7 sent the Blackhawks to a home playoff game, where they stumbled against an aggressive Greyhound offense.
Cheney (14-3, 11-0) couldn’t seem to find the back of the net in the first half, with Grandview (1-0, 0-0) scoring in the 14th and 35th minute. Blackhawk Noah Schorzman, assisted by Sam Fix, secured Cheney’s sole goal in the 63rd minute but couldn’t compete with Grandview’s Justin Jacobo, who scored two goals in rapid succession in the 76th and the 79th minute.
Grandview took 22 shots to Cheney’s 8, while Cheney relied heavily on goalkeeper Trae Babcock, who made 14 saves to the Greyhound’s 3.
