The Medical Lake Planning Commission accepted new members, including Gary Empkey, an eight-year resident of Medical Lake.

After three years, Medical Lake’s sewer moratorium was lifted, allowing building to resume in the city.

Tribal members from around the region gathered in Cheney to attend the annual Pow Wow held in the Eastern Washington University Pavilion.

The opening day of fishing season was a hectic one, with popular spots crowded with anglers.

The latest “crime index” released by the Cheney Police Department showed that city officers responded to a total of 419 incidents during March alone. A fire broke out in a Cheney trailer located on Main Street on the south end of town.

April 12, 1979

April 16 was set as the starting day for the second annual beard-growing contest in Medical Lake in celebration of Founder’s Day. Those not wishing to compete in the contest were required to buy a “shaving permit.”

A trail of money and cigarettes led Medical Lake police to the arrest of three juveniles in connection with the burglary of Al’s Drive-In in Medical Lake.

The Cheney City Council voted to lease a new fleet of police vehicles rather than purchase one new squad car.

April 12, 1969

The head cook of Blair Elementary School, Lila Swanson, retired after 15 years of service.

A data processing course was introduced at Cheney High School. It was the first data processing course to be offered in the state.

The Cheney City Council reviewed its proposed city engineer contract.
