The Cheney Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club had an impressive showing at the 2018 Northeast Regional Winter Conference last month, with 50 of its 57 attending members earning a trip to the state leadership conference.
As a team, club members placed 93 times in competition and placed first in 17 of the 58 different events. Students who place in the top six of their events are eligible to compete at the State Business Leadership Conference in Bellevue April 10-13.
Despite being relatively young, the Cheney team competed particularly well in technology events, taking four the top six places in “Management Information Systems, Network Design, Compute Problem Solving, Spreadsheet Applications and Introduction to Information Technology.” Team leaders were Juliane De Los Santos, who placed in six different events and racked up two first-place finishes, and Holden McNaul, Dylan Doney and Steven Johnson, each of whom placed in five different events.
JT Gasper, Chasen LaTeller, Korinna Shaw, Marisa Mendoza and Lucy Nester each brought home two first-place trophies.
This regional event was attended by 18 local high schools and more than 480 students.
