The French-born American historian Jacque Barzun, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, wrote extensively about a wide range of Western and American cultural phenomena.
One of his cultural studies involved baseball. He’s even quoted on a plaque at the Baseball Hall of Fame. It reads, “Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball, the rules and realities of the game — and do it by watching first some high school or small town teams.”
