A 20-point fourth quarter wasn’t enough for the Cheney High School girls basketball team as the Lady Blackhawks fell short of a rally at West Valley, losing 50-47 in a Great Northern League hook up last Friday night.
Cheney’s Maggie Smith led all scorers with 15 points, with Haley Pemberton adding 11. Jillian Taylor paced the Eagles (1-1, 4-2) with 11, with Hailey Marlow and Tori Ivins each adding 10.
Cheney drops to 0-2 in the GNL, 1-4 overall. The Lady Blackhawks wrap up their pre-Christmas break schedule this week, hosting defending GNL champion and state 2A fourth-place finisher East Valley Tuesday (results next week) and Shadle Park (1-6) of the Greater Spokane League Friday.
The Knights entered Tuesday’s game at 7-1, suffering their first loss of the season last Friday, 61-53 at Clarkston. East Valley features a balanced offense, with Genesis Wilkerson, former Lady Blackhawk Holy Flynn and Faith Adams each having led the Knights in double-digit scoring a couple times in the first eight games.
Izzy Boring leads Shadle, averaging just over 10 points per game.
