Jerry Flikke

Jerry Leland Flikke, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, U.S. veteran, and friend, passed away at the age of 70 on Nov. 28 surrounded by his family at home in Spokane.

Jerry was born on June 26, 1948 in Spokane, Wash. to Leland and Lorraine (Hess) Flikke. He graduated from Cheney High School in 1966. In 1968, Jerry was drafted into the Army and served a tour in Vietnam.

Upon returning home, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was successfully treated with radiation and other interventions.

Following his recovery, he began his 25-year career as a mail carrier with the Cheney Post Office. Jerry loved all of his patrons and never failed to cheer them up with a smile and, at times, a simple joke.

During this time he met and married the love of his life, Karen Leetch, on June 18, 1983. In 1997, Jerry retired due to health issues resulting from his earlier radiation and medical treatments.

Jerry was known for his great sense of humor, infectious smile, warm hugs and appreciation for even the smallest of things. He had a passion for classic cars, old coins, 60’s music and golf.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Lee, his mother, Lorraine, his in-laws, Leland and Evelyn (Hosko) Leetch and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen, his four children, Sean Flikke of Bow, Wash., Kelly Dullanty (Gina) of Fruitland, Idaho, Jessica Fliksteen (Lauren) of Pleasant Hill, Calif. and Jaren Flikke (Whitney) of Spokane; his six grandchildren, Kamdyn Flikke, and KJ, Kiana, Kole, Kaie and Kodi Dullanty; his sister Marcene Hendrickson (Paul) of Dayton, Wash. and several brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at the Cheney United Methodist Church on Fourth Street at 2 p.m. Donations may be sent to a veterans organization of your choice or Hospice of Spokane.
