Cheney Community Church

Each year, Samaritan’s Purse sponsors Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a ministry where donors fill a shoebox with items to be sent to a needy child. This is a worldwide ministry.

It is now Operation Christmas Child time! Cheney Community Church will again serve as the drop-off center for the West Plains. Shoeboxes are available here at 1307 Third St.

Anyone can fill a shoebox! The national collection week is Nov. 12-19. The drop-off center hours are: Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. - noon; Thursday 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.; Friday 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday noon - 3 p.m.; Sunday noon - 6 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please call the church office at (509) 235-4841 or Mickey Smith at (509) 499-6447.

Other activities in the coming week include a women’s brunch, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. where special speaker, Francee Strain, will be featured. The Awana Club on Wednesday, Oct. 31, will have a costume contest with winners for each age group. Small group studies and prayer times meet during the week.

Last Saturday, the Holy Flame Youth Group had a fun outing to the pumpkin patch at Green Bluff. This was followed by a pumpkin party on Monday evening with dinner, snacks, games, costume contest and pumpkin carving. All had a great time.

Our Sunday worship service is at 10 a.m. with Bible classes at 9 a.m. and “Children’s Church and Nursery” during the morning service. All are welcome. Come join us!

Cheney Congregational Church

Cheney Congregational Church invites everyone to join us in worship this Sunday at 10 a.m. Pastor David Krueger-Duncan will deliver a sermon on “Women in Jesus Life.” How did Jesus deal with women? Communion will be served and is open to all.

A brief congregational meeting was held Oct. 28. Amendments to our constitution and bylaws were presented and passed, thus allowing our 501(c)3 status to go forward.

Don’t miss our annual “Church Bazaar,” 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3. After shopping for treasures from our crafts and country kitchen, enter the raffle and silent auction. Then join us for a lunch of soup and a piece of pie.

Looking forward, Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., Dr. Michael Folsom will give a presentation on “Floods of Fire and Ice-The Amazing Landforms of Eastern Washington,” followed by discussion and refreshments.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to worship with us this Sunday, Nov. 4, as we celebrate “All Saints Sunday.” On this day we remember all the saints that were baptized and those who have passed away this last year. Fellowship coffee hour follows the worship service.

Adult education class precedes worship at 9 a.m. There will be no children’s Sunday school this week.

Emmanuel invites everyone to the women of the church’s annual “Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon” this Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A short list of available items are crafts, baked goods, holiday decorations, white elephant sale, quilt raffle and Christmas basket raffle. You won’t want to miss our soup lunch, pies and coffee, too. Come early for best selection.

Thanksgiving worship service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. Please bring non-perishable food items for the Cheney Food Bank.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food and personal care items are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7.

Heritage Baptist Church of Cheney

Heritage Baptist Church of Cheney welcomes you to share our Sunday worship services at 11:11 a.m. and 6:06 p.m.. We are located at 1831 First St. next to Cheney Real Estate Management.

God’s Word, the Bible, is filled with more than 3,000 questions. Well, what does God’s Word say about one of our questions from last week? “Does God really love us?” John 3:16 says, “For God so loves the world (the people of the world) that He gave He his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God does love you very much and is offering you a very exciting future.

Inland Northwest School of the Bible is getting ready to begin its first course: Introduction to the Old Testament. It is designed as a help for Sunday school teachers, deacons and other church leaders carry out their duties in the church. Please call or text 342-6038 for more information or course registration. It is also for high school juniors or seniors with fast start courses.

Heritage Baptist Church “Chooses to Care.” We are a small church group and desire to help as we can.

St. John’s Lutheran Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Medical Lake is getting ready for our “Fall Bazaar” that will open this Friday, Nov. 2, and continue on Saturday, Nov. 3. We invite you to come check it out.We will have the same good specials on rummage as well as a variety of craft items, baked goods, lefse, krumkake and Christmas items, apple cider and delicious meals including German potato salad, sausage dinners, chicken noodle casserole, oriental salad and chili.

Our drawing for a lovely handkerchief quilt and an afghan with matching Gonzaga pillows will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. We do hope to see you there.

And, of course, we would love to have you join us for worship on Sundays at 11 a.m. Sunday school for adults is at 9:30 a.m. and for children during a part of the service.

We currently have pastor Everett Arnold leading worship. He is very personable, has inspiring sermons and we appreciate his service.

Our building project is nearing completion. This last week the new carpet was installed. We would be happy to show you the progress.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Choir practice has resumed, continuing under the direction of Alexandra Rannow. We practice every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Come sing with us.

Fellowship breakfast is each Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday morning at ll:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

Our annual “Holiday Bazaar” will take place this Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parish hall.

Special guest Dr. Rita Seedorf will be with us to offer and autograph her books, “Letters from Brackham Wood” and “Letters from a Wary Watcher.” You will find homemade desserts, crafts, pottery, gently used collectibles and more.

United Methodist Church

It’s a “bazaar” day in Cheney as the United Methodist Church and several other local churches host holiday bazaars on Saturday, Nov. 3. The annual UMC event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will offer a variety of gifts, holiday items, yummy cookies by the dozen as well as homemade pies and cinnamon rolls.

Please join us Sunday morning for worship and Holy Communion at UMC. Lay Leader Carol Kriegh will be speaking and continue a sermon series based on the book of Job. Members of a mission team heading to Victoria, Texas will assist with the service.

There will be an early Thanksgiving dinner and fellowship gathering at the church on Nov. 10. The planned potluck will be right after worship and will take the place of the monthly adult fellowship.
