Eagles qualify for Big Sky tournament

The Eastern Washington University soccer team has the chance to defend its back-to-back Big Sky Conference Tournament titles as the Eagles earned their fifth-straight berth into the event held on Oct. 31-Nov. 4 in Ogden, Utah. The Eagles went 3-0 in their last three regular season matches to earn a spot, including two road wins over Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.

Eastern (4-4-1, Big Sky, 8-7-3 overall) earned a No. 6 seed and will take on No. 3 Northern Colorado (10-7-1, 6-2-1) in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Oct. 31. The winner will go on to play No. 2 Idaho in the semifinals on Nov. 2.

VOLLEYBALL

Eastern falls to Northern Colorado

The Eastern Washington University volleyball team fell in four sets (25-20, 15-25, 17-25, 15-25) to Northern Colorado on Oct. 27 at Reese Court. With the loss, Eastern drops to 8-14 on the season and 0-10 in Big Sky play.

Freshman Kennedy Kaminsky led Eastern with 10 kills and four blocks, followed by Kahle Elliott who had seven kills and three blocks. Samantha Boever garnered 23 assists and 12 digs, and Grace Nelson and Puaoolelagi Sao each had 15 digs to lead the Eagles.

The three-match home stand continues for the Eagles. EWU hosts Weber State on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. and Idaho State on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.

COLLEGE HOCKEY

Eastern sweeps Montana Tech

Three goals by Will Mix paced Eastern Washington to a 3-2 non-conference hockey win over Montana Tech in Butte, Oct. 19 at the Community Ice Center.

The following day, Mitch Hunt scored twice and Matt Lucero once to lead the Eagles to a 3-1 win, completing a weekend sweep of the Orediggers.

The Eagles are now 9-1 overall and 4-1 in Pac-8 Conference play and entertain Washington State for a pair of league games, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the University Recreation Center.
