Community response to fire appreciated

Letter to the Editor

We would like to express our most sincere thanks to several people and organizations for their immediate response and assistance involving the wildfire Tuesday at State Route 904 and Mullinex Road. We were staying in the Peaceful Pines RV Park which had to be evacuated due to our proximity to the fire.

The outstanding managers of the park, Tracy and Pete, orchestrated a park-wide evacuation on short notice in a calm and organized manner. They followed up by phone and in person and even drove around Cheney to find us all and relay information that we could head to the Cheney Rodeo grounds for the night. We initially stopped at Safeway and were immediately offered a spot for the night by Jim and Drew plus an offer for any other assistance we may need.

The kind people at the rodeo grounds directed us to an RV site and kept us informed of any changes in the status of the fire or our RV park. And of course, the emergency respondents to the fire were incredible, fighting it immediately by land and air. They saved a commercial building and our RV Park.

We are all indebted to them and are in awe of the skill and perseverance they displayed in quickly containing this wildfire. We are visitors to Cheney but will always have an appreciation for the incredible community that it is. Our thanks to all!
