Oct. 28, 1978

A fire that caused more than $2,000 in smoke damage at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney was ruled to be arson.

Four Medical Lake juveniles were charged with stealing a 1975 Suzuki motorcycle.

Eastern Washington University’s football team destroyed Southern Oregon’s Red Raiders 38-13, scoring 31 points in the first half.

Oct. 24, 1968

A state highway engineer refused Cheney’s request for traffic lights at First and F streets and First and E streets for the second time in two years.

A local poet and retired veteran wrote the Cheney Free Press with a “Hallowe’en poem.”

The Cheney School Board joined other districts in a lawsuit against the Library Book Publishers because of alleged price fixing.
