Medical Lake head volleyball coach Todd Harr summed up his team’s winless week of play in the Northeast A League quite simply.
“As a whole this last week we lost our identity a bit as a team,” Harr wrote in an email, leading to a pair of 3-0 losses, to Riverside on Sept. 18 on the road and to Colville at home Sept. 20.
In their 28-26, 25-16, 25-9 loss to the Rams (1-5 NEA, 3-5 overall) the inability to find either offensive or defensive consistency was a determining factor, Harr said.
“Our bright spot of the night was getting all of our freshman on the court and getting them varsity experience,” Harr said. They included Ellie Haas tied for most assists with Megan Goertz, and Sophie Sanders, tied for the lead with five kills with Hailey Sanders. Both only played one set, but still turned in impressive numbers, their coach said.
Thursday vs. Colville (4-1, 5-2), the offense was a little more of a factor, but far from enough in a 25-13, 25-23, 25-14 sweep. Goertz led her team in assists (10), aces (4) and digs (6). “We passed better as a team, but struggled offensively throughout the night,” Harr said.
“As a team, we talked and focused on moving past a tough week,” Harr said. “We need to come together and rally around one another to help push us.”
The Cardinals (1-4, 1-5) have just one match this week, played at Deer Park 1-4 NEA, 1-5 overall) this past Tuesday, Sept. 25.
