The Cheney School Board created an ambitious list of goals for the upcoming school year, including a plan to study the capital needs of the district.

Medical Lake School District buildings, including the district office, were tested for asbestos.

Cheese found in a broken freezer in the Medical Lake School District was set to be buried in a landfill, not consumed. The freezer reached 90 degrees before it was discovered.

Aug. 31, 1978

The three inmates that escaped from the Pine Lodge Correctional Center were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Concerned citizens established the "Arson Alarm Foundation Inc." to educate Washington residents about the dangers of contemporary arson fires.

City of Cheney staff began selling equipment they felt was no longer cost-efficient, including a Mac truck with a 14-foot snow blade attachment.
