A mobile home fire in Airway Heights resulted in two people, including a firefighter, being transported to the hospital Saturday night.
Firefighters responded to the scene on the 12500 block of Sunset Highway at about 5 p.m. Saturday and the flames were extinguished within an hour.
Mobile home fires can be particularly dangerous due to the proximity to other homes, but fire engines were able to respond to the scene in record time, Airway Heights Fire Chief Mitch Metzger said.
In a fortunate twist of fate, the fire department was already driving in for an aid call in the area. Firefighters saw the flames and were able to respond immediately.
“We were right on it,” Metzger said. “Sometimes it’s to better be lucky than good.”
The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital and treated for heat-related injuries. He was released Saturday evening and is recovering at home, Metzger said.
The female resident of the mobile home was also injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The source of the fire is still being investigated.
