There are probably not any apologies coming from the hosts of the Medical Lake Summer Fest basketball tournament staged July 27 – 29.
The Cardinal girls won their varsity bracket with a 40-27 win over Columbia River and the Medical Lake boys varsity team were runners up to Cashmere following a 59-51 loss in the title game.
The Medical Lake girls are the defending Northeast A League champions and made their second consecutive strip to the 1A state tournament last winter.
Besides winning the title, Medical Lake garnered some individual awards as Emily Munson was named tourney MVP and earned a berth on the All-Tournament team along with Jaycee Oliver and Ellie Haas.
Sam Gollehon and Alex Stith each earned All-Tournament team honors on the boys side for the Cardinals.
Other bracket winners included No Mercy in the Boys Junior Varsity bracket, beating the Cardinal JV for the crown 52-34.
The tournament, which is in its second year, saw immense growth, organizer, and Cards boys varsity coach Noel Hachtel said. After starting with eight teams in 2017, the event grew to 20 this year.
