Sutton Park is busy this summer with the outdoor concert series every week.
Previously, the 3D Band, Mojo Box and Kosta la Vista has played at the gazebo but there are still a lot left during the hot days of Cheney. Every show goes from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
The next concert is Lyle Morse aka “Lonesome Lyle” on Aug. 1. He is an acoustic guitarist, harmonica player and a singer-songwriter and performer who calls eastern Washington his home.
His music has been highlighted and performed live on National Public Radio affiliates as well as commercial and college radio programs featuring blues, folk and original music. He has also performed on network television and cable TV.
Morse currently concentrates his energy on acoustic blues music, but sometimes ventures into other forms of American roots music. He has music available to purchase and preview on iTunes before heading to the show.
The next concert is on Aug. 8 featuring the Jan Harrison Band. Harrison has performed in Las Vegas showrooms and toured nationally. She is now a local vocalist devoted to the Spokane area. She will perform some live jazz and blues with bassist Doug Folkins and keyboardist Danny McCollim.
On Aug. 15, the band Scattergun will perform for the next entertainment. The band specializes in premiere high energy classic rock, blues and country.
Rounding out the concert series will be the band Last Chance for Gas. The band members include Robin Amend on base, flute, saxophone and vocals, Greg Schmidt on keys, guitars and djembe, Michael Wilson on Guitars and Jim Brickey on drums.
The group performs classic rock along with praise and worship music. Most of the events they do are private, but this is one that is open for everyone.
The parks and recreation office in Cheney encourages people to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic to the concert series. Admission is free and there will be concessions sold for cash during the events. For more information, call 509-498-9250.
