Junior Thomas Baycroft represented Cheney High School well at the Palouse Ridge Invitational on April 12 by tying for first overall as an individual, with Jack Plaster from Gonzaga Prep with 72 strokes.
As a team, Cheney ended the tournament with 390 strokes and placed 19th out of 26. Gonzaga Prep took first overall with a 309.
Junior Nate Koohns score an 87 while junior Jack Kallem collected a 104. Junior Nate Elliot (127) and junior Chasen Letellier (133) rounded off the competition for Cheney.
“With some nicer weather we should start better as a team,” head coach Jeff Pike said in an email. “Players have been practicing a lot and their improvement is beginning to show.”
The Blackhawks continued tournament play on Wednesday, April 18 at their second Great Northern League tournament at Hangman Valley Golf Course. Their next tournament is at the Fairways Golf Course on Tuesday, April 24. The last time Cheney competed against GNL teams, they took third with 480 strokes.
