At the Cheney City Council meeting, council approved a resolution rejecting a bid to replace well No. 6.

Janeen Van Slyk of Medical Lake Dollars for Scholars received a donation from members of the Blue Waters Bluegrass Festival Association which would go toward scholarships for local college students studying music and arts.

Sunset Crossing Park, the 2-acre mini park proposed for the Airway Heights’ subdivision, got approval from the City Council. ALSC Architects designed the plan and was under contract with the city for the new planning and designs for two new park projects, budgeted for $30,000.

The effort to revitalize Cheney’s downtown was in full swing as the volunteer citizen groups organized to brainstorm ideas and solutions for the moribund area.

Cheney High School senior Jennifer Barnard was named a recipient of the Verna Lippert Scholarship given by the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University.

A Spokane-area women’s leadership conference committee honored Bev Keating, a local woman known for her tireless volunteer work and relentless devotion to the Marshall Valley.

April 21, 1988

Members of the Cheney School District board of directors looked to the small community of Othello, and selected James Jungers as the new superintendent of the local school system.

Jeni Moore was named student of the month at Cheney High School.

Medical Lake’s Mayor George Ramsey was cited for driving while intoxicated on Fairchild Air Force Base after he was stopped by a security police officer.

Six young ladies took the stage competing for the title of Cheney Junior Miss. In the running were Brenda Baldwin, Katrina Hanke, Melissa Henson, Diane Powell, Carrie Richey and Jonna Uibel.

April 20, 1978

The Medical Lake City Council accepted the resignation of recently appointed Councilman Wayne Olsen from his previous post on the city Planning Commission. Named to the Planning Commission were Richard Lambert and Leroy LeMaster.

The final selections for Medical Lake participants in the Boys and Girls State program were made, according to the Medical Lake American Legion Post Commander Marshall Webb. Selected for Boys State were Greg Wilson and Ted Bale. Their alternates were Tabo O’Connor, David Hawes and Robert Kibling. For the girls, Jennifer Baston and Brenda Sache were selected with Valerie Vercee, Brenda Davis and Dianne Brennan as alternates.

April 19, 1968

Fred Rosenzweig was hired as vice principal of Cheney High School by the district’s board of directors.

The Cheney High School FTA (Future Teachers of America) was sponsoring a drive to collect paperback books for servicemen in Vietnam.

The Medical Lake High School tennis team beat Reardan 6-5. Winners were Mary Dills and Dave Lambert in singles. For doubles, teams of Gary Reed and Ron Dittenmore, Mike and Jay Savage, Bob Ehrgott and Donna Jarvis, and Dennis Kuku and Bob Dellatore also won.
