Cheney High School dropped a pair of non-league baseball games played at Avista Stadium last Tuesday, April 3.
The Blackhawks sprang to an 8-0 lead after three innings against Cashmere, only to have the Bulldogs rally in the end for an 11-10 win. In the nightcap, Cheney scored a run in the bottom of the seventh against Freeman but it wasn’t enough as their rally came up short in a 3-2 loss.
Julian Chabot took the loss against the Scotties, giving up three runs on just four hits, with the Blackhawks committing two errors behind him. Peyton McPherson led Cheney at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double. Also getting singles were Jacob Lauber and Jake Berman.
Cheney drops to 4-5 overall, but was scheduled to return to Great Northern League play Tuesday at home against league-leading Pullman (11-1, 4-0), weather permitting. The Blackhawks travel to Coeur d’Alene to face Idaho Inland Empire League 5A Lake City (9-0) on Thursday for their final non-league game.
The Blackhawks return to league play April 17 at West Valley, wrapping up the season with four of their final seven games at home.
