The Cheney High School girls tennis team defeated North Central 5-2 on March 29 to continue their successful season. The Blackhawks sit at 2-1 overall going into spring break.
In the No. 1 singles spot, Danica Gray lost to Hannah Nelson 6-1, 6-2 and Jazi Daily fell 6-1, 6-2 to Jenna Bothun in the second spot.
Chloe Lerch got it going in the third singles position by defeating Julie Sacha 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
“Chloe Lerch had a great singles match,” head coach Courtney Webb said. “It was a battle and I was glad to see her win that third set. She kept a positive attitude the whole time and played very consistently.”
Brayden York-Aiku closed out singles competition in the fourth spot by winning 6-2, 6-1 against Hannah Gonzales.
In doubles, the Blackhawks swept North Central. In the No. 1 spot, Nika Kauwe and Sarianne Winters won both sets 6-0. In the second position, Abby Fillmore and Divinity Lomazzi won 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out play was Alysin Simons and Cassie McDaniel, winning 6-2, 6-1.
“Our doubles played very aggressively and finished their matches strong,” Webb said.
The Blackhawks will continue competition on Monday, April 9, at Deer Park. They will then start Great Northern League play the next day on April 10 at home against Pullman.
