CHS girls tennis defeat Davenport

The Cheney High School girl's tennis started off their season at home against Davenport with a 3-1 win on March 16.

"They (Davenport) didn't have a full team, but it was good for us to finally get out on the courts and play a few matches," head coach Courtney Webb said. "We played aggressive and played at our own level."

In the No. 1 double spot, Nika Kauwe and Sarianne Winters won the first set 6-2 and didn't stop from there as they took the second set 6-0 against Jade Smith and Megan Holbrock.

In the next doubles spot, Divinity Lomazzi and Abby Fillmore won both of their sets 6-0 over Leigh Cogburn and Kaylie Sams.

On the singles side, Danica Gary played in the No. 1 spot and fell in a close battle to Kylene Edwards. Gary won the first set 6-1, but lost 6-2 and 6-4 in the next two sets.

Jazi Daily competed in the No. 2 singles spot for Cheney and won both of her sets 6-0 against Tessa Sweetland.

The Blackhawks played against Lakeside on March 20 and Mt. Spokane on March 21. Cheney will open up Great Northern League matches on April 10 at home against Pullman.
