After having the holidays off, the Airway Heights City Council had their first meeting of 2018 on Jan. 16.
The meeting began with the Parks and Recreation Department recognizing Sean Otopaulik as the 2017 volunteer of the year.
"Sean started coaching basketball for our youth in 2008," Andy Gardner, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Supervisor said. "He has become a fixture in our youth sports program. There is no better coach who has made it a priority in teaching the value of sports and sportsmanship. Every season, parents request for their kids to be on his team."
