The Eastern Washington University Downtown Student Gallery is now hosting the "Song of Silence: Embroidered Tapestries of Kyrgyz Nomads" exhibit. According to the gallery's website, embroideries known as the Tush Kyiz or wall-hangings were traditionally created by the nomadic women of Kyrgyzstan to commemorate weddings, celebrate national events, and show off their personal skill. Hung in the entryways of yurts, they were a functional, yet precious part of the homes in which they resided. The exhibit is open until Feb. 9 with hours of Monday-Friday from noon – 5 p.m. There will also be a reception on Jan. 25 at 4:30 – 6 p.m.
