Medical Lake got off to a strong start and then cruised to an easy 51-22 Northeast A League wrestling victory Dec. 13 at Chewelah.
The Cardinals earned wins in the first three bouts, beginning with Ethan Davis’s 4-1 decision at 138 pounds over Kaden Mackowiak. Josh Figuerdo (145) topped Gage Smith 8-2 and Brayden Peteren defeated Joe Dreiszus 12-5.
Chewelah would collect the next three matches as Dylan Walser won an 11-3 major decision over Nate Stevens at 160 pounds. Kaden Krouse (170) then pinned the Cards’ Liam Lonar in just 18 seconds. Jake Jeanneret (182) followed with a 20-second pin of Nick Bridges that brought the Cougars back but never into the lead.
Medical Lake took charge after that, winning six of the final seven matches, five by pins.
Chris Hurt-Moran (195) won in just 27 seconds over Josh Piepgras and the Cards’ Isaiah Schlosser (220) followed with a 53-second victory over Cole Davis. Chewelah’s
Wade Baker (285) briefly stopped the run with a pin of Nick Thompson in 33 seconds.
Skylar Peterson (106) won by forfeit while Jun Figuerdo (113) topped Justyce Acosta with a pin in 3-minutes, 46-seconds. Jon Anderson (120) pinned Wyatt Smith in 32 seconds while Weston Thomas (126) capped the win with his 30-second pin victory over Alyssa Walser.
Medical Lake evened its NEA record at 1-1 and takes a break from league competition over the holiday break. They compete next Thursday, Dec. 28 at the M-2 Mallet tournament at Rogers High in Spokane at 9 a.m. and at a tournament in Hanford, Wash. on Saturday, Dec. 30 which also begins at 9 a.m.
