Special six honored for selection

Six area athletes were honored at halftime of the Eastern Washington University mens basketball game with Cal State-Northridge this past Sunday for their selection to the state's Special Olympics team that will be competing July 1-6 in Seattle at the 50th annual USA Games. Five athletes from Cheney and one from Medical Lake will join just over 130 other state athletes this summer in competition in 14 of the 30 different sports in Special Olympics.

Cheney athletes and their sport are Aaron Evans (stand up paddleboard, former world athlete in swimming), Scott Tobin (stand up paddleboard, 2010 national champion in track and field), Peter Condon (golf, four straight years of gold medals at state tournament for individual 18-hole), Bryce Barlow (stand up paddleboard) and Mariah Gilbert (stand up paddleboard). Chase Riley from Medical Lake/Lakeland Village team will compete in bocce ball.
