AH City Council discusses recreation center easement

At the Nov. 13 study session, the Airway Heights City Council had a brief discussion with Public Works Director Kevin Anderson about an Inland Power and Light Easement near the new recreation center.

Inland needs to convey power from Deno Road southward to Sprague Avenue and they have requested an easement on the city’s existing recreation center site. The location of the easement is on the far west edge of the property and will have no impact on future plans to use the site. Inland has secured an easement from Spokane County for the rest of their planned route through county property.

“It has no impact to our property,” Anderson said. “So we are inclined to accept it.”

Councilman Dave Malet asked if it would affect any future baseball or soccer fields near the center, but Anderson assured that it will not.

Other than that one concern, there was no further discussion or problems with the request.

The council also talked about their 2017 end of the year celebration and authorized it to be held at the Ramada.

In council reports, Aspen Monteleone said that the completed roundabout on U.S. Highway 2 at Craig Road is “flawless.” She would like to see the comparisons of fatalities between Airway Heights and other cities to see if it makes a big impact.

“I think they did the best job they could,” Anderson added to the discussion.

In staff reports, City Manager Albert Tripp asked the council to think about who they want to nominate for manager of the year.

Anderson also reported that the FEMA road project is substantially complete.

The council then went into an executive session on a review of intergovernmental agreements with the Kalispel Tribe.
