Fall community clean up on the horizon in Airway Heights

A chance for Airway Heights' residents to clean out their yards is coming up at the fall community clean-up day on Oct. 28.

"Basically this event is just to offer residents a place to drop off their leaves, branches, and other garden items," Glenn Horton, parks and recreation coordinator said. "The goal is to clean up the community a little bit and try to make it a cleaner place."

This event has been going on close to 10 years and it is free to the residents of the town. The drop off location is at 924 South Lawson St., and the event will be going from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Proof of residency is required to participate in the event. An example of papers that could be brought are a water bill and a picture ID.

Items accepted are: branches and limbs less than 2 inches in diameter, leaves, pinecones/needles, grass clippings, thatch and garden vegetation. Items not accepted are: dirt, sod, rocks, untrimmed tree branches and limbs, plastic bags and general household garbage.

"You can't bring a trunk of a tree," Horton added. "That seems to happen every year."
