If last week was any indicator, Medical Lake volleyball continues to make small steps towards its first Northeast A League win.
The Cardinals lost 3-0 to both Deer Park (14-25, 12-25, 20-25) on Sept. 19 and Chewelah last Thursday, (22-25, 20-25, 6-25).
“This was a great turnaround after last week and showed that the team is still willing to fight moving forward,” head coach Todd Harr wrote in an email.
The best part of the night, he said, was seeing the fight within each of the girls when it would be very easy to have given up by this point in the season. Hailey Sanders had another good night and led in kills with three for the Cards, (0-6 Northeast A, 0-6 overall).
“This was the best match we have played so far this season,” Harr said of the Chewelah ((3-3, 4-3) match. “We stayed with our altered lineup from Tuesday and it paid dividends.”
The first two sets were nail bitters, Harr said, and the intensity carried over from the end of Tuesday night where his team lost a tough finale 20-25.
“This was the best the team has looked since I took over the program,” Harr said.
Claire Morrison led the team in assists with four and has done well at setting, Harr said, since taking over when Katie Kepner moved to the middle-blocker spot.
Medical Lake was at Riverside (1-4, 1-5) on Sept. 26 and hosts Freeman (3-1, 3-1) tonight, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
