Lady Blackhawks stay perfect in GNL volleyball

Cheney High’s volleyball team is off to its best start in years, running its overall record to 5-0 with a hard-fought 3-2 win last Thursday night at East Valley.

The Lady Blackhawks and Knights engaged in an old-fashioned duel, trading wins and loses in the first four sets. Cheney won sets one and three 25-22 and 25-20 while East Valley collected wins in sets two and four, 25-16 and 25-12 before the Lady Blackhawks prevailed in the fifth and deciding set, 15-9.

Last year’s Great Northern League most valuable player Peyton Stark paced Cheney with 33 assists and a pair of aces. Avery Stark collected 10 kills, Morgan Peace had 24 digs and Taishae Wallace one block defensively.

The win keeps Cheney perfect in the GNL as well at 3-0. The Lady Blackhawks can extend that this week, but they’ll be tested in the process.

Cheney travels to pre-season title favorite Pullman (2-0, 3-0) on Tuesday, and returns home Thursday for a match against Clarkston (1-3, 1-3).
