Geiger scores ‘em all in Cards win

Makayla Geiger had just another career game Sept. 11.

The senior forward scored all five Medical Lake goals in a 5-1 Northeast A League win over Newport that was rescheduled from Sept. 7 due to problems with wildfire smoke.

Geiger, who scored 14 times last season and set a school record with 21 career goals, opened scoring for the Cards (1-1) at the 20-minute mark. After Newport’s Chloe Clark tied it, Geiger gave her team a lead they would not surrender at 30 minutes.

“Makayla had a great day,” Cardinals’ head coach Zane Higgins said. “Our midfield was able to consistently play her dangerous through balls behind the defense to break her free.”

She got her third, the proverbial “hat trick” in the second half at 55 minutes and followed with additional scores at 65 and 75 minutes. Jaxyn Farmen had a pair of assists while Julia Olmstead, Jasmin Pacheco and Nicole Wetherell each added an assist.

Taylor Cannon split time in goal with Annastasia Hurt-Moran and combined for eight saves.

On Saturday, the Cardinals lost to Cheney 9-0.

Medical Lake was at Riverside Sept. 12 and plays Colville today (Sept. 14) at 4 p.m. at Shepard Field.
