Cheney police seek Lucid shooter

Law enforcement authorities are searching for three individuals in connection with a shooting at the Lucid marijuana shop in Cheney Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10.

Cheney Police Capt. Rick Beghtol said a Native American man (pictured front and side) entered the store to purchase product and was denied due to lack of identification. The man left, and a 19-year-old Native American female (pictured) subsequently entered the store and was also denied purchase due to being under age.

After she left, she got into a white utility pickup truck (pictured) that was reported stolen on Saturday out of the White Swan area. The man walked up to a gray Acura MDX where store employee Cameron Smith, 46, sat eating his lunch. The man fired two shots from a 9mm handgun from virtual pointblank range into the driver's side of the Acura, entered, and drove off in the vehicle headed north on State Route 904.

The license plate of the Acura is BCV4296. The subjects and victim remain at large at this time and could be headed to Yakima. Police are seeking any information the public may have on this case. Information should be directed Beghtol at (509) 498-9235.
