Miss Cheney Rodeo applications available

Applications to compete and possibly become Miss Cheney Rodeo 2018 are now available. The application process closes Oct. 1, with the competition taking place Oct. 20-21 at the Cheney Rodeo grounds.

The packet includes interview requirements and itinerary, application form, Miss Cheney Rodeo rules and expectations, horsemanship patterns, liability release and Miss Cheney Rodeo required events. According to an email from the Cheney Events Association, Miss Cheney Rodeo can appear in up to 13 events during the year, with nine required.

In the packet, association president Justin Monter points out that “this is a competition which recognizes a number of attributes: horsemanship, personality, public speaking, and appearance. Parents, friends, and relatives are welcomed and encouraged to watch the competition, however we ask that they do not disturb or coach the contestants.”

There is a $25 non-refundable fee to apply.

“Contestants must be 17, by Jan. 1, 2018, and can email [email protected] for complete list of requirements and expectations of Miss Cheney Rodeo 2018,” Heidi Monter, Cheney Events Association marketing coordinator, said in an email.

Monter also said a Cheney Rodeo queen clinic is planned for Sept. 30, with more details to come.
