The initial release of results in the Aug. 1 primary election shows a number of clear leaders in races for mayor and a variety of seats on the Medical Lake City Council.
With all but 5,000 ballots county-wide left to count, Shirley Maike collected 286 votes, 46 percent of the ballots cast and will move on to the Nov. 7 general election in the mayor’s race. Who she will face then is up in the air as Mikeal Suniga leads Laura Parsons by a margin of 179-152 (28.8 - 24.5 percent).
In the race for Council Pos. 2, John Merrick earned 288 votes, 48.48 percent, and will face either Elizabeth Rosenbeck (161/27.1) or Monica Manza (143/24.0).
In one of the more interesting races, Tony Harbolt (247/41.3) will face Don Kennedy (245/40.07) for the Pos. 4 council seat.
Finally, Ted Olsen (259/43.75) will await the final release of ballots to know who he will meet for Pos. 5 in the general. Gary Plumlee (171/28.89) has a slim lead over Michael Deeley (155/26.18).
Voter turnout across the county was sparse with just over 17 percent of voters casting a ballot.
