Cheney Rodeo champs give all fans taste of the action

Titles are decided on all three days

Top competitors and eventual champions spread their best performances over all three days of the 50th edition of the Cheney Rodeo last week.

Friday efforts held true for two more days in bareback and barrel racing with bull riding, saddle bronc and steer wrestling decided Saturday night before a packed Bi-Mart Arena. Those who ventured out Sunday were rewarded with top finishes in tie-down and team roping.

Brian Brown of La Barge, Wyo. rode Man Called Horse to an 82-point win Friday and the $1,974 check in bareback. Justin Miller out of Billings, Mont. used a re-ride Sunday to come close with an 81-point ride on Wichita, earning $1,513.

Also Friday, Mandy Hamilton's 17.29 second time was just good enough to hand her a $1,768 payday in barrel racing for the Manhattan, Mont. competitor. Cheyenne Allan (17.36) and Heather Knerr (17.40) came close Sunday.

Jody Markus from Redmond, Ore. rode Revolving Guns Saturday to an 83.5 point ride to win the bull riding title. Parker Dougherty from Canby, Ore. and Parker Breding out of Edgar, Mont. were just behind with 82 points in their Saturday rides.

The Columbia River Circuit's top saddle bronc rider Tyler Corrington edged out Friday competitor Tom Knight from far away Gunnedah, Australia 83.5 – 81.5 and took home $2,492.

Blake Knowles from Heppner, Ore. won his steer wrestling round Saturday with a time of just 3.6 seconds to earn $1,902 with three competitors, Trevor Knowles, Russell Cardoza and Travis Taruscio scoring identical 4.2-second times and $1,406 checks.

Taylor Santos of Creston, Calif. won the tie down roping title Sunday with an 8.3 second time, good for an $1,816 payday. Shane Erickson was just behind at 8.5 and earned $1,579.

Dustin Bird and Russell Cardoza's 5.2-second time was tops on Sunday in team roping with each winning $1,695.
