Clarke named EWU vice president of diversity and inclusion

In a June 21 news release, Eastern Washington University President Dr. Mary Cullinan has named Dr. Shari Clarke, as the vice president for diversity and inclusion at EWU.

"Dr. Clarke will be an excellent addition to Eastern's leadership team," Cullinan said in the release. "In all her roles, she has focused on creating diverse and inclusive learning communities and has worked collaboratively to advance diversity initiatives and expand opportunities for all students."

Clarke comes to Eastern from Ohio University, where she has served as vice provost for diversity and inclusion and chief diversity officer since 2014. She has held leadership positions at Marshall University, the University of Nebraska, the University of Maine-Orono and Whitman College in Walla Walla.

Clarke received her doctorate in educational leadership and higher education at the University of Nebraska. She received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and her bachelor's degree from Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.

"Eastern Washington University is uniquely poised to lead in the areas of diversity and inclusion based on the institution's visible commitment to inclusive excellence," Clarke said in a release. "I am excited to be a part of President Cullinan's leadership team and to work in collaboration with the faculty, students, staff and community in moving a diversity agenda forward."

Clarke will begin work at EWU on Aug. 2.
