Leo Kincaid of Medical Lake rescued a 3-year-old boy from an accidental drowning. The young child took off toward a nearby duck pond at Spokane's Manito Park and went underwater instantly.
Workers put the new Del's Feed and Farm Supply sign in place at 222 N. First St., the site of the former Cheney RV and Auto.
Kirk Earlywine was named the new Eastern Washington University men's basketball coach.

Jay Daniels and Kevin James, the morning disc jockeys at the radio station KNFR, heard the news that students at Four Winds Christian Academy in Cheney had raised $1,000 of their own money to help finance a gym and then it got stolen. Disgusted by the thievery, the DJs dedicated their show to collect donations for the students.
Susan K. Lehman of Medical Lake earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree. She earned it from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology, located on Long Island.
Nine local teams of students - four from Cheney, four from Medical Lake and one from Fairchild Air Force Base - participated in the Middle School Mathematics Olympiad held at Eastern Washington University.

Larry Lunke, the owner of the Athlete's Edge sporting goods store in Cheney was heading to the West Side to become the new head football coach at Anacortes High School.
Approximately 147 people were registered for the annual three-mile Lions Club Founders Day Fun Run in Medical Lake. Taking first place overall with a time of 16 minutes and 52 seconds was 17-year-old Craig McGoran.
Cheney's Syrie Hollen was the newly crowned Washington State Dairy Princess.

A fire that gutted the restroom at the Savage House Pizza Parlor was being investigated by both fire and police departments due to "suspicious circumstances."
Homer Dickerson of Cheney and Medical Lake's Fritz Gilbreth were named "Outstanding Citizens for 1977" by the Cheney-ML Rotary Club during the awards banquet.
Debbie Worth led the Eastern Washington Recreation Association (EWRA) swim team with firsts in the 200-yard medley and 60-yard freestyle during in Invitational "B" swim meet.

June 22, 1967
The department of highways awarded seven construction contracts, including Interstate 90 in Lincoln County and between Tyler and Cheney on the former main cross-state highway.
Kay Ham, of Medical Lake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ham and a member of the Tyler Grange, took part in the national Best of Show Talent contest at the State Grange session. Kay received fourth place.
At the conclusion of the school year at Fisher Junior High School, 40 students had maintained a 3.5 or better grade point average and were listed on the honor roll.
