Cheney resident named Washington State University nursing program director

Dr. Joyce Griffin-Sobel, Dean of the Washington State University College of Nursing, announced June 6 that Dr. Wendy Buenzli has been named RN-BSN program director.

Buenzli has been an assistant professor at the College of Nursing's Tri-Cities campus since 2015. She also previously served as the associate dean of nursing at Spokane Community College.

A Cheney native and current resident, Buenzli's nursing practice has primarily been in critical access hospitals and her research interests include working with rural health populations. She is still employed part-time at East Adams Rural Healthcare in Ritzville. Buenzli is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International (the Honor Society of nursing), as well as the Western Institute of Nursing and the Washington State Nurses Association. Among her community activities is serving as camp nurse at Camp Fire Inland Northwest's Camp Sweyolakan.

"Wendy has an extensive background in associate and baccalaureate programs and has the administrative experience to work across all campuses," Griffin-Sobel said in a news release.

WSU's RN-BSN program is targeted at registered nurses or recent graduates with an Associate Degree in Nursing who want to advance their nursing knowledge, enhance their leadership potential and broaden their perspective of clinical practice by earning a bachelor's degree.

The RN-BSN program is offered full- or part-time at all five WSU College of Nursing sites statewide.
