Cheney police are on the look out for a pair of dogs that entered a home in the Golden Hills area and killed one of the occupants cats.
Kellie Yates, who lives in the home on Sunrise Drive, said two dogs pushed open the heavy, sliding glass door on Wednesday evening, June 21, entered the home and chased her cats through the house — upstairs and downstairs. They eventually killed one, a mother who along with her two kittens Yates took in to foster care.
Yates said she and her roommate had never seen the dogs before.
"What if it had been a small child?" she said of the attack.
Yates said she called the police, who sent the call along to Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services, SCRAPES, Police Chief John Hensley said on Thursday. Hensley saw the animals himself while searching near Avalon and Hampton streets. He described one as a dark brown German Sheppard with a red collar and the other as a lighter brown pit bull with no collar.
Hensley said early Thursday afternoon that SCRAPS officers were in Cheney and searching for the animals. Anyone who sees the animals should contact Cheney police at 535-9233.
