Units from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, Spokane County Fire District 3 and American Medical Response responded to a serious, two-car head-on collision at approximately the 14500 block of Medical Lake Four Lakes Road between Craig and Medifor roads, at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to SCSO Dep. Mark Gregory, deputies received a call of a Silverado pickup truck traveling eastbound that crossed over the center-line and collided with a Suburban traveling west.
Tyler Stevens, a Cheney Middle School student, was at home when he heard a loud screeching coming from outside. After Stevens looked out the window and saw the accident, he dialed 911.
"I've seen a couple of crashes before, but nothing like this," Stevens said.
The driver of the Suburban was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Silverado had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.
SCOPE Incident Response Team volunteers closed the road between Craig and Medifor roads while traffic unit investigators were called to the scene. The road was opened at approximately 12:26 p.m.
As of press time, the accident is under investigation. Gregory said the cause appears to be distracted driving or inattention.
"We do not believe impairment was the cause at this point," he added.
