More solid numbers, finishes for ML track

Medical Lake again lost the track war, but won some key battles May 10 at Colville in the final Northeast A League meet of the season.

The ML boys lost to the hosts, 83.5–63.5 and to Lakeside 92–51. The girls fell to Colville 122–24 and Lakeside 122–16.

“All in all we had a good day,” head coach Gene Blankenship said. “We had 10 boys and 10 girls PR, led by Molly Rosenbeck in the pole vault.” She moved into the No. 2 spot in Medical Lake history with an effort of 8-feet even.

Again, it was sprints and distance races where the Cardinals earned the biggest share of their points.

Keyhon Ross anchored an exciting victory in the 4x100 relay along with RJ Viloria, Olijawan Smith and Urijah Taylor, winning a tight one over Colville, 44.61– 44.899 seconds. Ross also won the 100 and 200. Smith was first in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles.

Mason Williams finished second in the 800 meters, first in the 1,600 and 3,200 in 10 minutes, 34.57 seconds. Zachary Lewis was right behind Williams in a time of 10:53.85 with a PR and Tyler Pena third at 11:01.42.

Notable efforts for the girls included Mariah Pena’s third-place finish in the 1,600 in 6 minutes, 3.9 seconds. Rachel Bibby finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with her 55.09-second time a personal record for the senior. Kayla Branch also established a PR in the triple jump with a leap of 30-5.

District competition is this Friday and Saturday, May 19, 20 at Riverside High School.
