Medical Lake boys wrap up 3-0 week for 9-3 record in Northeast A tennis

The Medical Lake boys’ tennis team completed a perfect week in Northeast A League play with a win over Newport 5-0, May 2, followed by a pair of 3-2 victories over Chewelah (May 3) and Lakeside (May 4).

Noah Ray breezed at No. 1 singles versus Newport with a pair of 6-0 set wins. Folke Schroder-Frykhammer also swept his No. 2 singles as did the doubles’ pairings of Trevor Nilles and Daniel Miller (No. 1), Justin Lohrand Jared Bergeron (No. 2) and Nathan McShane and Ethan Brown (No. 3).

Nilles and Miller delivered the decisive wins against Chewelah, 6-2, 6-4 and then again versus Lakeside, 7-5, 6-4. Ray and Schroder-Frykhammer also got things started with their wins versus the Eagles.

“Nilles and Miller played an excellent match against some tough opponents,” co-head coach Jake Wesselman said. “They strung together some very nice points to get the win and Noah continued his domination against Lakeside.”

Medical Lake is 9-3 in the NEA as they seek to defend their 2016 crown. League standings were not updated at of presstime,

Medical Lake’s girls were 1-2 on the week, earning a 4-1 win over Newport before dropping 4-1 decisions to both Chewelah and Lakeside.

Elsa Henningsson and Jasmine Uribes got the Cardinals off to a good start with singles wins while twin sisters Lyndsey and Sydney Cazier got a win at No. 1 doubles, and the team of Heather Barr and Bryanna Kuebler at No. 2 wrapped up the win with their 6-3, 6-1 win.

At Chewelah, Henningsson earned the lone singles win, 6-7(4-7), 5-7. She did likewise at home versus Lakeside with a straight set victory 4-1.

The Cazier sisters earned praise from head coach Dawn Eliassen despite a 6-7(3-7), 2-6 loss, noting, “Hands down the best match I’ve seen the twins play. Ever.”

Following seeding meetings on May 10, next for both teams is district play May 12 and 13 at Mead High School.
