Weather continues to haunt Medical Lake tennis

Rain continued to plague Medical Lake’s boys’ tennis as an April 25 match against Deer Park was delayed and postponed with no date for resumption at this point.

That was followed April 26 with a 4-1 loss at Riverside in which the lone Medical Lake win came from the No. 3 doubles team of Nathan McShane and Caleb Snow who scored a 6-4, 6-2 win.

No. 2 doubles, Justin Lohr and Daniel Miller suffered a tough loss, 2-6, 7-6(6), 4-6 that summed up a difficult pair of outings, co-head coach Jake Wesselman said.

“This was a tough loss for the boys,” Wesselman said. “We went out strong in some matches, but struggled in others.”

However, Wesselman said it was a great learning experience for the team. “With multiple matches coming up, we need to fine tune some areas of our game in order to be more successful.”

The rain stayed away at the annual Inland Empire Tournament, a good thing considering there were 700 players representing over 50 teams.

“We finished 29th overall,” co-head coach Dawn Eliassen said. “It’s always a good experience for our kids to hopefully get a draw that allows them some good competition, but also allows them to watch some of the top players of their age.”

Notable for Medical Lake included Noah Ray who finished 2-3 as well as sisters Lyndsey and Sydney Cazier who were 1-2 in doubles play.

In advance of the district tournament that takes place May 12-13 at Mead High School, Medical Lake scrambles with a nonstop schedule of four matches in four days that includes senior day, today, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. versus Lakeside.
