The Cheney High girls tennis team continued Great Northern League play with 4-3 losses to West Valley (April 25) and Pullman (April 28).

In the West Valley match, No. 1 singles Bridget Calvert defeated West Valley’s Ava Raney (2-6, 6-1, 6-3) in a close three-set contest.

No. 2 Alannah Lewis won her match against Tori Ellis (6-2, 6-1) and No. 4 Taylor Passey picked up a victory against Shelby Knapp (6-0, 6-2).

Calvert extended her winning streak to six matches after her win against Allie Rembert (4-6, 6-2, 6-1), as did Lewis, who defeated Ally Herr (7-6, 7-5).

No. 3s Divinity Lomazzi and Sherridan Morales picked up Cheney’s only doubles win for the week against Jade Proctor and MacKenzie Oldroyd (3-6, 7-6, 11-9).

“Sherridan was coming up from varsity and you could tell they wanted to fight for that win,” Webb said. “They were the last match and we had already lost, but they were still fighting for that match.”

Fourth-place Cheney (1-3 GNL, 4-3 overall) is on the road this week at West Valley (3-1, 7-1), May 3 and Clarkston (1-1, 1-4) tonight (May 4). The Bantams defeated the Blackhawks 4-3 on April 24.

“I’m glad we get to play West Valley again, they matched up well for us,” Webb said. “As for Clarkston, it could go either way.”
